by Henna Verma ![]() Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit organization with the intent to build "simple, decent, and affordable" housing for those who are unable to do so on their own. This is a great organization because it focuses and addresses the needs of locals and their community. Habitat for Humanity chooses the recipients of the homes through a thorough background check, references, and ensuring the family is financially stable enough to take care of the mortgage. The family we were helping consisted of a mother and her 9 month old son. On our Habitat for Humanity trip, we got to the location a few minutes before 8am on Saturday September 27th. Our goal for the day was to put up all the trusses, which were for the roof. A few of us stayed on the ground to lift the trusses to the few others who had climbed up to the ledges. Working along side us was the future homeowner, Andrea. It was such a great experience to work with her and see how thankful she was. At the end of the four hour shift, we left sweaty and tired, but with the feeling of gratitude for being offered this opportunity and seeing the progress we had made together.
