![]() On Tuesday October 29th, 2013, members of Alpha Kappa Psi Xi Psi chapter volunteered at the ASTA Care Center in Bloomington, Illinois. While at the center, brothers talked with patients that live at the center, while also passing out and serving Halloween candy and treats to younger children. Brothers were at the center for about two hours, and made a big impact just by spending time with the people at ASTA Care. The main goal of attending this volunteer event was to help out the patients by just having casual conversations with them while we passed out candy to younger children and their families. What is the ASTA Care Center? ASTA Care Centers are health care centers that specialize in intermediate and skilled nursing care: as well as comprehensive therapy services and personal care programs. The ASTA Care mission is to provide superior quality health care services to the adults of its community. What is the best part of volunteering at ASTA Care Center? For me, the best part of volunteering at ASTA Care was to see the smiles on everyone’s faces. Patients at the center don’t have as much interaction with the outside world as much everyone else, and you could tell they just loved talking with us. It was really great to see brothers step outside of their comfort zone and be able to talk and help everyone. It’s not an experience everybody gets to do, and I am so happy I did volunteer!
