What Different Leadership Opportunities Have Taught Me in AKPsi

My name is Miriam Ngai and I am a part of the Chi pledge class (Spring 2021). I rushed as a 2nd semester Freshman and had heard about Alpha Kappa Psi from my hometown friend, John Rosenberg.
During 1st semester, when John had first told me about AKPsi, I was a psychology major and I didn't think being in a business fraternity would be beneficial for my career. Soon after, however, I decided I wanted to switch my major to fashion design, and as a result, I rushed AKPsi the following semester. AKPsi has given me multiple occasions to work on my leadership style, and I wanted to share what I got out of each of these opportunities!

AKPsi Mentor (Spring 2022):
Being a mentor for a pledging member was very rewarding because this was my first time being someone's one on one mentor. From meeting up with my mentee, Chelsea Cora, multiple times throughout her pledging process, I have learned how to lead and help strengthen passion in an individual.

Fundraising Chair (Spring 2022):
As Fundraising Chair, I officially had my first in-chapter position. From being Fundraising Chair, I learned how to create new events that I enjoyed putting together, and through that, how to keep members of chapter engaged. I also worked with my committee to come up with ideas and have them create flyers for certain events. Admittedly, I was hesitant with delegation of tasks with my committee members, but over time I learned the importance of trusting my committee.

Co-Recruitment Chair (Fall 2022):
As one of the two Co-Recruitment Chairs, I learned how to be receptive to feedback as well as be adaptable to constant changes. I also strengthened my organizational skills as well as communicating with a few other position-holders to solidify and promote our Rush Week. I was also able to work closely with the other Co-Recruitment Chair and also my friend, Tyler Bleau, and was able to be flexible and find ways to incorporate new ideas into our Rush events.

I appreciate each and every chance AKPsi has given me to improve, not only as a leader, but as an individual, and I'm excited to see what the future holds for the Xi-Psi Chapter!
