What started off as an idea in a coffee shop, later turned into an event for students across the the Bloomington-Normal area. Last week, on October 14, 2015 Business Week along with Women in Business sponsored a brand new event at Illinois State University. This event was Movie Talk: Breaking Down Gender Barriers in the Workplace. Many Alpha Kappa Psi members were in attendance and even on the teams that put the event on.
By 6:20 pm, the historic Normal Theatre was already packed and seats were hard to come by. At about 6:35 pm, the movie, The Devil Wears Prada was played for everyone in attendance. When the movie was over, a panel of 6 women in the workplace ranging from State Farm, Illinois State University, and several other businesses, spoke about their experience and insights of what it's like to work across several different industries in today’s society. Students engaged in this open panel to ask questions and learn about gender barriers as they prepare to enter the workforce post college. The members of Business Week and Women in Business in AKPsi included Kyle Zulz, Erin Myatt, Brett Gilbert, Kirsten Halverson, Megan Kapala, and Fawna Wasson. We can’t thank everyone enough for the support in this valuable event and hope to see it again in the near future!
