Before I even started school at Illinois State University, I knew I wanted to be a part of a business fraternity and had my sights on Alpha Kappa Psi. I had researched the organization and saw all the great benefits it had provided for others and was instantly interested in becoming more involved.
The first week on campus was pretty relaxed, as everybody was just figuring out their schedules and getting settled in. One day, at a meeting I was attending meant for introducing students to the multiple business programs around campus, I met somebody who was a member of Alpha Kappa Psi. After the meeting, I made sure to introduce myself and ask all the questions I had. He was kind enough to give me more information about their rush events and invited me to contact him via email if ever I needed something. As the week continued, so did the rush events. I made sure to attend all that I could and meet as many people as possible. Luckily, by the end of the rush process, I was extended a bid and knew now that pledging was the next step. The pledge process certainly kept me busy and productive throughout the whole nine weeks. While seeming stressful at times, it was always a rewarding and character building experience. Looking back at all I had accomplished over the process thanks to all the members’ help, I couldn’t be more shocked at how much I have grown in such a short period of time. I developed in ways I didn’t even think I could, but they have made such an impact in my personal, professional, and academic life. Now, as a full member of the organization, I couldn’t be more proud to be in a group of individuals all helping to build each other towards success. I can’t wait to give back to the organization over the next 4 years at Illinois State and I can’t wait to see where it takes me.
