![]() On Thursday October 31st, 2013, brothers of the Xi Psi chapter of Alpha Kappa Psi collected canned goods for Home Sweet Home Ministries. Brothers went door to door on Halloween and went trick or treating, and asking members of the household if they had any cans they would like to donate. (We also picked up some candy in the spirit of Halloween!) This event took place from 5-8:30pm in the Bloomington-Normal neighborhoods. Households were very generous with donations, and we received over 500 cans. These cans were then donated to the Home Sweet Home Ministry in the local area. What is Home Sweet Home Ministries?
Home Sweet Home Ministries serves Christ by providing food, shelter, and hope to the hungry, homeless and hurting. The cans that we donated are going straight to them, which will then feed these people in need. They served 135,000 meals to the homeless and hungry in the year 2012. Present day, they provide more than 400 meals each day, and distribute over 500 food boxes to individuals and families each month. What was the best part about Trick or Treat for Canned Goods? The best part for me was just seeing all the brotherhood around us. Halloween Day was cold and rainy; yet, everyone still had a smile on their face while volunteering for this cause. It was amazing to see all of the brothers work together and raise so many cans! Everyone wore a costume and socialized the whole time, bringing everyone together for a great service event!
