Business fraternities such as Alpha Kappa Psi offer immense advantages that will assist you in every step of your path to success. Whether you are a business major or not, a business fraternity is well worth joining. With these benefits, one might then ask, “How do I join a Business Fraternity?” or “Is it hard to join a Business Fraternity?” Well if that is you, you’re in the right place! The process of joining a business fraternity is quite simple yet competitive but knowing the process before hand will give you a step up above the rest. After following this Step by Step guide, you will be well on your way to joining a business fraternity!
Steps to Joining a Business Fraternity:
Do Research! There are probably a ton of clubs, programs and Greek organizations begging for your attention, especially at the beginning of each semester. You may be overwhelmed by the amount of choices but doing your research on the ones that stand out to you is the best advice you can receive. Ask friends, visit websites and go to informational nights to better understand what you may be getting yourself into. These organizations want the fit between you and their organizations to be the right fit so see where you would enjoy being and focus on those organizations. Specifically for business fraternities, research their alumni network, which majors they accept, minimum GPA, corporate connections, etc. These professional business organizations such as Alpha Kappa Psi have huge networks for internships and jobs so finding those people who can get you connected to the companies you want is crucial to your research. The fact that you are reading this article right now means you’re on the right track! Recruitment / Rush Week In order to join a business fraternity, you must go through recruitment week, also known as rush week. During this time, usually at the beginning of each semester, you will get to know the current active members through various events. These events include an Informational Night, Professional Night, Social Night and Meet the Chapter Night. Though each chapter is different, these are the basic events that occur during the week. These events will allow the members to get to know you as a person and professional. Make sure to meet everyone you can and really let them see your character and personality. Just be prepared, be yourself and the rest will follow. Visit our Rush FAQs for more info! Rush Interview: Usually at the very end of the Rush week, there is an interview that all Rushees must attend. This is a simple job-like interview to better get to know each candidate and what they have to bring to the table for the organization. The best piece of advice that can be given is to, as said earlier, be you and be prepared. Before the interview, research good interview and resume etiquette to stand out. These business fraternities are looking for people who already live out their values so being able to show that throughout the process is key to making yourself stand out as a potentially great addition to their team. Obtaining a Bid After rush week and the interview, you will hear back if you have been invited to join the organization or not. This invite comes in the form of something called a Bid. Basically, a bid is a formal invitation to become apart of the organization and enter the pledge process. Pledging The Pledge process vastly varies from business fraternity to business fraternity so to give exact advice would be difficult. Though each organization varies with the requirements, it is designed to develop each pledging member into a professional. Not only is professional development a reason for this process but also to be educated on aspects of the fraternities such as history and values. This process is purely for your benefit so be prepared to step out of your comfort zone to be pushed towards learning more about yourself. This process has the potential to change your personal goals, career outlook, confidence and more! If you make it to this stage, take it seriously and you will grow beyond belief. Congrats! You’re in! After completing these steps, you will become an official member of the business fraternity! Use what you have learned to apply it to your future career, share with others and go out to change the world! Tips & Tricks
