On Friday October 16th AKPsi participated in a service event with COUNTRY FINANCIAL at Easter Seals Timber Pointe! We had twelve brothers at the event along with four employees from COUNTRY. Easter Seals provides exceptional services to ensure that people with disabilities and their families have equal opportunity to live, learn, work and play in their communities. Easter Seals at Timber Pointe is a campground for these kids and during the summer they have camps for them, each week being disability specific to give campers a sense of commonality.
Running a camp such as this requires lots of labor and effort. While there, we met Matt who is in charge of the upkeep of the entire campground. Our event involved AKPsi brothers and COUNTRY employees working side-by-side to rake leaves on the campground. While the task seems minuscule, the impact we had was invaluable. After being in contact with COUNTRY FINANCIAL since the end of last semester in hopes of creating this event, I am pleased to say that it was a success! Brothers laughed, jumped in piles of leaves, took pictures together, went to dinner after the event, and made memories that will last longer than the short three hours we were volunteering. As we walked back to our cars brothers kept saying how much they wanted to do this event again and even continue this idea with some of our corporate sponsors. From my perspective, not only was the event a success, but it reminded us of what it means to be a member and brother of Alpha Kappa Psi. -Krista Beyler
