Last Monday, on February 15th, Alpha Kappa Psi was proud to host a professional presentation brought by a State Farm Representative, Eric Hoss. Eric is an Illinois State Alumni who currently works for State Farm where he is the Director of Transition Migration Services in their Canada Migration Program. Eric has also received his CPCU, CLU, and CHFC designations as well as being involved with the Central Illinois CPCU Chapter Society where he mentors one of our brothers, Adam Beach.
Outside of work, Eric has written a book called “Removing Doubt in an Interview” which he referenced during his presentation at Illinois State. He has provided many ways to help college students self evaluate, and help remove doubt in an interview. Doubts are things that employers see in candidates that affect the confidence they have in that candidate. There are several things that we can do to combat these doubts that employers have about us. First, he taught us that it is important to focus on the doubts they may formulate about you, and have a way to combat those doubts. Secondly, have mock interviews with people that don’t know you so that you can get unbiased constructive feedback. Finally, make sure that you have your own theme, or brand, to help set yourself apart from the other candidates. Eric Hoss is a great asset available to the College of Business and Illinois State as a whole. He often gives back to ISU by staying involved with Business Week, mentorship programs, and by presenting to students. He also volunteers his time by hosting mock interviews for students who need extra practice before a big interview. Thank you Eric for your time spent with Alpha Kappa Psi; the knowledge and wisdom you have shared will be taken full advantage of. We wish you the best of success with State Farm.
